The earthquake that struck Haiti in recent times have left damage and chaos in its midst. The exception to the rule has been Signal FM with its news and music. It ws a decision made by its manager Mario Viau.

Signal FM was one of the few stations that remained on the air by playing background music during the quake while its staff escaped from the building. Signal FM remained on the air using multiple generators and via receipt of contributions from international organizations and the Haitian Government.

During the time of the earthquake, Signal FM promised to remain on the air to provide information and news. People have been sending reports about conditions in their area and about those who have died or have been trapped under buildings.

At the same time, members of the US Armed Forces have been giving hand or solar powered radios to almost 80,000 Haitians at Petionville [ a suburb of Port Au Prince]. Many have used the radios to their advantage.

While there have been people who criticized the radio as an old fashioned instrument, it should be remembered that at times radio has been a powerful instrument in times of natural disasters. The udnerwriter can vouch for that since he listened to his shortwave radio during the Katrina Hurricane in Miami Florida in 2005.

The Miami Dolphins have announced that they will be hosting a relief fund for Haiti in collaboration with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, the American Red Cross, and Triton Container. The event will take place at Sun Life Stadium on the 23rd of January 2010.

The purpose is to raise money for the people of Haiti who have suffered from the recent earthquake. The current and former athletes as well as the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders will be present to collect money, non perishable foods, and medical supplies.

Sun Life Financial has even collaborated with the Miami Dolphins to create a fund which will match every dollar donated with a matching donation of two dollars. The ceiling for such donations will be $300,000

It is great to hear good news from the NFL, the Miami Dolphins, and the world of sports. The lessons to be learned from this article are that not all of the sports personalities are egoists. Many of them have given back to their communities and have helped others in time of need.

The personalities of the NFL have helped in times of disaster with one of the examples being Hurricane Katrina. There have been others who have helped in schools, hospitals, and other areas.

The good deeds of sports personalities deserve to receive as much publicity as the negative deeds. The underwriter hopes one day to see more good publicity of sports personalities helping their community and fewer scandals.

The earthquake in Haiti has killed 30 members of the Haitian Football [Soccer] Federation. The earthquake ocurred during a meeting of the federation. The building collapsed and there was only one survivor Dr. Yves Jean Bart who is the Federation President.

Jean Yves Labaze who was the coach of the Haitian Under 17 World Cup Finals was among the dead. Dr. Bart met with Captain Horace Burrell [Vice President of the Caribbean Football Union] during the latter’s visit to the beleaguered island.

Captain Burrell filed a report to Jack Warner [Vice President of FIFA] and the President of CONCACAF [which deals with North America and the Caribbean]. The result of the report was the detail about what transpired and how the victims deserved a proper burial.
It is hoped that as Haiti reconstructs, it can find refuge in sports including football [soccer].

The City of Miami Florida is another place in the world where efforts are underway to help the nation of Haiti recover from the earthquake that left it devastated. The hospitalis and other places have begun collection efforts to help while the celebrities in the fun capital of the world have contributed with their time.

The Magic City Casino will be hosting a concert in order to raise funds for the victims of the Haitian Earthquake. The concert will feature the following artists such as Cuban American Singer, Model, and Actress Maria Lourdes, Cuban Rap Star Rey El Vikingo, Cuban Salsa Stars Hansel and Raul.

The concert will also feature the Colombian American Actress, Model, and Television Presenter Adriana Cata~no, Cuban Model Sissi, Cuban Salsa Star Rey Ruiz, and the Celia Cruz All Stars. The Magic City Casino Event will be taking place on the 24th of January 2010. The Dominican Republic is another country where there have been celebrity efforts to support the earthquake victims of Haiti.

The baseball team of Leones donated one day of their salary to help the victims of the Haitian Earthquake while Dominican Television stations staged a marathon. The marathon was hosted by Dominican Singer Charityn while the people watched the parade of stars giving their donations.

The Latin Stars that also participated in a seperate effort for the cause of the Haitian people was Juanes, Rudy Perez of Calle 13, and Fanny Lu. Fanny Lu wrote an article titled “God Bless Haiti, My Heart Is With Your People”. while Alejandro Sanz and Ricky Martin sent their messages of support via Twitter.

The Colombian Singer and Superstar Shakira has asked the public for help with donations via UNICEF along with the US Latin Superstar Selena Gomez. The Mexican Singers such as Alex Syntek and Ana Barbara has asked for help for the people of Haiti. Olga Ta~non has also asked for help and has declared her intention to pray for the victims of the Haitian Earthequake.

The Argentine and Venezuelan Singer Ricardo Montaner [famous for his romantic ballads] challeneged the world to be active when it comes to combatting poverty as well as other ills that plagued Haiti. He said that “the time to be still has passed”. Luis Fonsi has also invited the people to contribute.

While the United States of America deserves praise for their efforts in helping the people of Haiti, the US Latin Community and the Latin countries in general deserve praise. The praise should also include the celebrities of the US Latin Community and Latin America.

The Cuban American Singer, Actress, and Model Maria Lourdes and other artists will be performing at a concert to benefit the victims of the earthquake that has struck Haiti. The concert will take place at the Magic City Casino on the 24th of January 2010 from 4:00PM to Midnight.

The concert will also feature artists from Miami such as Hansel y Raul [Cuban Salsa Group], Adriana Cata~no [Colombian American Model, TV Reporter, and Actress], Celia Cruz All Stars, Rey El Vikingo [Cuban Rap Artists], and countless other artists.

The country of Haiti deserves international attention as the situation continues to worsen. At the present time, there is no infrastructure as various countries such as USA, Mexico, China, and Europe are helping.

In other areas of the USA, 50 Haitian Orphans arrived at Pittsburgh International Airport where their adoptive parents are waiting.

France has attempted to dampen the spirits by accusing the USA of wanting to “occupy” Haiti. While the underwriter is trying to be objective, it cannot be denied that Haiti suffered from a breakdown in infrastructure. The President of Haiti lost his house and place of work.

Haiti is suffering from a situation in which aid is needed. The lack of government or any authority has made the situation a tense one. France should look itself in the mirror before making condemnations about Haiti.

During the Rwandan genocide of 1994, France stood by and did nothing. The world should remember the phrase of the French Philosopher Norman Geras: “to be indifferent is to stand condenmed”.

Maria Lourdes and the artistic community of Miami Florida [as well as the rest of the city] deserves praise and publicity for their efforts in helping the people of Haiti.

Estimada Noticias Univision 34:

Jozy Altidore who is the one of the personalities of Hull City and US Soccer [Football] is not going to participate in the game between Hull City and the Tottenham Hotspurs on the 16th of January 2010.

The reason is the recent earthquake in Haiti which claimed the lives of his two uncles. Mr. Altidore reported that he was “heartbroken” and “devastated” over the recent events in the troubled Caribbean nation.

He further stated that his parents [who are from Haiti] may go to the island and that it “was difficult to fathom what is happening”. Mr. Altidore also talked about visiting the island and has expressed his desire to “remain positive” in spite of what has transpired.

Phil Brown [who is the manager of Hull City] may grant Altidore “grievance time” since he may “noit be in the best state of mind to play competitive football”. Mr. Altidore also challenged the world to help in the situation of Haiti.

The thoughts and prayers of the underwriter goes out to Jozy Altidore and his family as well as the people of Haiti.
