Revolution and Morelia to the SuperLiga Finals

After two intense semi-final games, the SuperLiga championship game is set.

On Wednesday, NE Revolution took on Puebla in a drawn game that ended in penalty kicks. In a low scoring game with each team scoring one goal during regular play, it was the revolution that ended up taking the game by scoring 5 goals during the penalty round to Puebla’s 3.

Last night, the Houston Dynamo and Morelia also played a great game with the Mexican team taking the win 1-0. The sole goal of the game was scored by Miguel Sabah during the 46th minute of the game qualifying his team for the final.

The final match of the tournament will be played later in August where the winning team will take home $1 million!

Nueva Inglaterra logro avanzar hacia los finales con su victoria contra Puebla FC. La proxima cita sera contra el ganador de la contienda entre Houston Dynamos y Morelia

The Superliga 2010 Semifinals between the New England Revolution and Puebla FC was a classic clash of the football/soccer titans of North America. The result was a tie of 1-1 between the two teams in regular time with the game determined by penalty kicks.

The first goal was scored by Mansally for the Revs at 55 minutes with a left foot kick into the left lateral area of the net. The response of Puebla was fast with Olivera scoring an equalizer with a distant kick on the right foot towards the center of the goal post.

Before the goals, the game was lacking in excitement as both teams measured their strength. Afterwards, the game was then a struggle for possession of the game between the two teams as they attempted to score another goal.

It was not to be as the game went into penalty with both teams scoring goals until Lugo failed to score for Puebla. Mansally finally scored the winning goal with another left foot kick into the goal post and New England made Superliga 2010 history by advancing to the finals.

New England will face either the winner of the Houston Dynamos and Morelia Monarcas inthe finals.

Last the first round of the SuperLiga ended. The best of the Liga Mexicana and MLS met over the past couple of weeks, and four teams are advancing forward to the next round.

In Group A, the Houston Dynamo and Puebla will advance and the winner will play either the New England Revolution or Morelia from Group B. The play has been passionate and it is great that the finals are represented equally by teams from both leagues.

The tournament will continue in August when the champion will be crowned.

Felicidades para Houston en su victoria.

The Houston Dynamos have just defeated the Puebla FC in order to clinch first place in Group A. Dominic Oduro scored the first goal in his career for the Texas team assisted by Cam Weaver.

The rest of the game was a measure of force between the two teams as well as a rush to judgement. The rush to judgement mentality and the desire to do any form of play did not help either team that dealt with multiple fouls.

It came to the point that the referee issued multiple red cards to members of both teams for unprofessional conduct.

The players affected by the red cards were Oduro and Cruz of the Dynamos while Gonzalez and Brown of Puebla received the same punishment. .

The last few minutes of the game was characterized by both teams just wanting to finish the game since both teams appeared to be fatigued with this game. It is something that both teams cannot afford in the last few games of the Superliga 2010.

The red cards will probably not help either team in the last leg of this tournament. Regardless, Brian Ching did a superb performance with his passing and defending the ball. Houston Dynamos remain in first place in Group A of the Superliga 2010 followed by Puebla, CD Chivas USA, and Pachuca.

The Chicago Fire eliminated the Pumas from the Superliga 2010. Wilmar Conde took advantage of a right corner kick by deflecting the ball with his head into the center of the goal post.

Sergio Bernal (who was the goalie for Pumas) was indecisive about what to do in response to the fiery onslaught of Chicago.

Bernal’s indecision was evident when Collins attempted to score yet a last minute change of mind helped the Pumas goalie deflect the attempted goal.

While the Fire dominated the game with its hometown advantage and its tenacity, the Pumas attempted to score an equalizer with Oscar Rojas attempting a long distance kick.

Sean Johnson (who was the goalie for the Chicago Fire) deflected the high flying ball by swinging his body to his right side. Jose Pineda (who was the referee) gave yellow cards to Wilmar Conde and C.J. Brown of the fire for misconduct.

Pineda also awarded the same punishment to Leandro Augusto of the Pumas. The game itself was very exciting with both teams in the bottom ladder of Group B attempting to leave with dignity since both teams were going to be eliminated from the Superliga.

When the whistle blew ending the game, the Group B Classifications remained as follows: New England in first place with 6 points, Morelia with 4 points, Chicago with 3, and Pumas with 1.

New England and Morelia will now advance to the next rounds of the Superliga 2010.
