Julio Iglesias who is the internationally known singer from Spain declared his support for Juanes concert in Cuba. Julio Iglesias made his declarations in an interview with the radio station based in Colombia called W Radio.

Mr. Iglesias reiterated that the intention of Juanes is to “sing in Cuba and nothing more”. He called Juanes a “great artist and humanitarian” who will be “transmitting a message of love and music” to Cuba.

It is refreshing to see people who are supporting a concert which is only meant to promote music. There were other developments in the Juanes story.

Gorky Avila [who is one of the singers of the Cuban Rock Group Porno Para Ricardo] stated in an interview with Oscar Haza [the host of the news talk show "A Mano Limpia" [Transparent Hands] transmitted by the US Latin Station America Teve] that he is ready to participate in the concert by Juanes “if the Cuban Authorities allow me”.

Gorky Avila reminded the people watching the interview that his group as well as himself have been jailed repeatedly for music that criticizes the Castro Government in Cuba. In the case of Gorky Avila, the ball appears to be in the court of the Cuban Government.

Reflection On Porno Para Ricardo

The world has been witness to rockers whose music never sees the light of day except for those who search for music with soul. People like Los Pacificos [The Peace Makers] or Nil Lara have been ignored for their Cuban Origins or because the powers that be in the music business felt threatened.

In the case of Los Pacificos, it was the repression of the Castro Government and the political establishments of the world that kept their music from being heard and caused the dissolution of the group. Another rock band with the bite of a snake and the sting of a scorpion is around in Cuba in spite of the repression.

The group is called Porno Para Ricardo and their music is a tropical version of Metallica and AC/DC combined with doses of reality that gives all of the governments including Cuba a headache. One of their singers whose name is Gorky Aguila has been jailed and tortured for his music.

He has refused to recant his music and has even increased the tone of his verses. In fact, the music of Porno Para Ricardo is on sale in different record stores outside of Cuba including El Museo Del Disco in Miami Florida. The videos of this group in You Tube have also been popular.

One of the popular hit songs by Porno Para Ricardo with the title: “Muchas P…..” or its translation in English “Many B…….” is a pseudo anarchic song which criticizes people for selling their ideals for the comforts of life. It is another interpretation of the Benjamin Franklin quote: “Those who sacrifice freedom for comfort do not deserve freedom or comfort”.

With it’s “in your face” attitude, Porno Para Ricardo has made inroads into the cause of freedom and addresses the reality within Cuba as no other group [musical or political] has.

Reflexiones Sobre Porno Para Ricardo

Hay roqueros en español que reciben publicidad como Mana, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, y Charly García. Hay algunos como Los Pacíficos y Nil Lara que reciben poca o ninguna publicidad. Quiero confesar que a veces Los Pacíficos y Nil Lara no recibieron publicidad por sus orígenes cubanos.

En el caso de Los Pacíficos, el aparato represivo de Castro y sus amos en Washington y Moscú hicieron su trabajo. Porno Para Ricardo forma parte de los grupos de rock en español victimas de la represión del silencio por ser cubano o origen cubano.

El grupo tampoco recibe publicidad debido a los intentos del gobierno de Castro en ocultar la verdad sobre Cuba. Porno Para Ricardo expresa la realidad de una juventud cubana harto de una nomenclatura de viejos en ambos estrechos de la Florida.

Los versos de este grupo no son los versos de una oposición que quiere un dialogo pacifico. Los versos son de un grupo de una juventud que quiere dar una patada en el culo a los viejos y sus seguidores que colaboraron en la destrucción de las Perlas de las Antillas.

Para aquellos que no conocen la música de Porno Para Ricardo, ellos son una mezcla de los grupos metálicos como AC/DC, Maximum The Hormone, Metallica con sabor latino y mas pornografía que lo escrito por El Forastero de Ohio.

Una de las canciones interpretado por Porno Para Ricardo cuyo titulo es “Muchas Putas” me hace recordar de algo según mi criterio. Con esa canción, pienso en las mujeres que vendieron su cuerpo y libertad para obtener las comodidades en la vida.

Cuando escucho “Muchas Putas” pienso en las putas de la vida cotidiana como Rosita Fornes, las hijas de los Castrados, y hasta los políticos en nuestro continente. Porno Para Ricardo ha sufrido en carne propia la represión de los Castros y sus amos en Washington.

A pesar de la represión, la tortura, la prisión, y la marginalización: ellos siguen grabando sus materias. Incluso alguno de sus discos están a la venta en El Museo Del Disco en Miami Florida. Para aquellos que no pueden ordenar el disco, sus videos se pueden apreciar mediante You Tube.

Acuérdate que Porno Para Ricardo no es apto para menores pero sirve como ejemplo para la juventud cubana y en la tierra en búsqueda de su libertad. Los discos y videos de Porno Para Ricardo merecen un 100% por la música, los versos, y los videos pues proviene del alma combinado con la realidad de la vida cotidiana.
