Candidate Doug Marks to appear at Black Stone restaurant 1262 W. Lincoln Hwy. DeKalb, IL on May13th 7:00PM

Carpentersville, IL – May 10, 2010

14th District Libertarian Congressional Candidate Doug Marks is appearing for an open forum with constituents of the 14th District.
“It has been a very longtime since we had a voice in Congress. Our current representative, Bill Foster, refuses to speak to the public where I welcome your views and desires so I want to bring open forums back to the people of this district. I have lived here for over 40 years and want the voice of the people to be heard in Washington,” Mr. Marks asserts.  He opposes a closed government that handles business behind closed doors and in secret meetings. “I am also very supportive of an effort called ‘Bring the Representatives Home’ where most of the Washington work is done through teleconferences. This program will allow me to stay here and be available to the people of this district,” Mr. Marks claims.

Doug Marks is also committed to a smaller government, a constitutional government, more personal freedoms and an end to all wars.

“Business as usual is putting party policy before the people has to end this election,” Mr. Marks declared.  “The voters of the 14th district deserve a representative voice in Congress. I am a Real Choice for a Real Voice in Washington!”

Alex Snitker has surprised and shocked the political world in Florida by announcing he is running for the US Senate as a candidate of the Libertarian Party. The announcement comes at a time when Marco Rubio is running as a Republican, K.Meeks is running as a Democrat, and Charlie Crist [the Republican Governor of Florida] is running as an Independent.

He has decided to run as a Libertarian Candidate after the candidates themselves have been attacking each other instead of discussing the burning issues of the day in the Sunshine State. It was not an easy feat since the Libertarian Party has to overcome obstavles of ballot access in a society that has promoted freedom, human rights, and democracy while not practicing it at home.

Alex Snitker was a member of the US Marine Corp from 1993 to 2001 who is currently married to his high school sweetheart Kelly since 2000. They have a son who is currently 21 months of age. He considers his experience with the Marines helpful in being a Senator who is willing to serve his people and provide for a governance that is transparent. The qualities which are needed in the USA of the 21st Century.

He went to work as a salesman for AXSA Document Solutions after his honorable discharge from the military. His experience from his work as a salesman is that hard work pays off in the short and long run.

Alex Snitker is a believer in term limits for Members of Congress, the Senate, and that they should have the same retirement plan as the rest of the citizens of the USA. He is also a beleiver is the Balanced Budget Amendment which would limit the US Federal Government to spending equal or less than what it gains. In other words, he favors an America that would live within its means instead of spending money on wasteful projects.

He is also a believer in using the energy available in the USA without the need to depend on foreign sources. Alex Snitker also believes in the Fair Tax which would replace the current tax system with a federal retail sales tax which would be administered by the tax authorities of the 50 states of the Union. He is also a believer in non interference in the affairs of the world.

Alex Snitker has repeatedly stated that the USA should stop being a police person to the world and promote liberty by showing it in America to the world. He believes that a strong military is needed to defend the USA against internal and external enemies within the borders of the USA. The idea of illegal immigration according to ALex Snitker is to identify each one since no country can survive with open borders.

He is of the belief that illegal immigarnts should either be deported or give them a path to citizenship such as paying taxes, background checks, medical screening, and a course on the rights, responsibilities of being a US Citizen which includes the history of the country. The response of the establishment has been indifferent to censoring the news.

The mainstream media does not allow political announcements by Alex Snitker because they do not want to upset the status quo. Regardless, the people have a right to know about Snitker in order to make a decision in November 2010.

The following article is the opinion of the author which appears in parenthesis and has nothing to do with this blog.

SENATOR MEEKS, WE ARE WITH YOU

When an elected, public official shows leadership on an issue and swims against the tide of conventional thought and stands up to the powers that be, that official deserves the commendation of the Libertarian Party of Illinois (“LP Illinois”).

At a recent luncheon at the Illinois Policy Institute, a free market think tank, State Senator James Meeks (D-Chicago) spoke about a voucher plan for some of the worst performing schools in Chicago.  His plan would affect at least 22,000 students in the city and would allow them to pay for tuition at any school that would admit them. The legislation has been approved by the Illinois State Senate.

LP Illinois stands behind Senator Meeks in this effort.  It is our belief that when a public school is failing their students, those students should still receive a quality education, and whenever possible, they should be able to attend schools with a better track record that can provide them with the right education to make them more productive citizens.  We also applaud reports that Senator Meeks proposal was not met with the approval of the Chicago Teachers Union (“CTU”) and that CTU has vowed that he would not receive any more campaign money.  In turn, Meeks has written them a check for every dime he has received.  We feel that Meeks has shown considerable courage in this regard for standing up to arguably the loudest and most powerful voice against school vouchers, the teachers unions.  Very few Illinois legislators are willing to buck strong special interest groups, no matter how big the problem.

Meeks’ legislation is a good start, but is not the only solution to all that ails the educational system in the state.  The education tax credit needs to be expanded to cover more of the cost of educating children outside the public school system. This could include credits for parents who independently educate their children and also for taxpayers who donate to non-profit organizations that provide scholarships for lower-income children.  Credits are targeted tax cuts, so no public money is spent.  In short, lawmakers should start the process of bringing more educational freedom to both parents and students throughout the entire state.

The Libertarian Party of Illinois is a political home for those who value honesty, fairness, respect, responsibility and compassion.

Dear Editor,

On March 10, Governor Pat Quinn unveiled his budget proposal for fiscal year 2011.  He told us how he plans to attack the state’s $13 billion fiscal deficit, and while $13 billion is a huge number, a deficit is only the money currently due, it does not reflect the total amount owed

Currently, the total amount of money the state of Illinois owes others, including unfunded liabilities such as pensions, is over $98 billion – a truly staggering number.  It represents approximately $7,590 owed by every man, woman, and child living in the state.  The Governor’s solution, of course, is simply more of the same fiscal insanity!

His proposal outlines borrowing $5 billion more and enacting an additional income tax hike of 33% on Illinois ’ already beleaguered citizens.  The tax hike, he says, is to avoid $2 billion in spending cuts, much of which would come at the expense of our Illinois ’ public schools.  As we all should know by now, a standard political ploy is to threaten education.  That always gets everyone’s attention.  But how wise is his plan when Illinois is currently rated second only to California’s looming insolvency?

Our problems have been exacerbated by numerous non-standard accounting practices crafted by our legislators to conceal how much is really being spent.  As a Certified Public Accountant and Controller, I am appalled by some of the methods used to hide the truth from the people who are ultimately expected to pay the bills. As the next Illinois Comptroller, I will work to change those practices, bringing them more in line with accounting practices that work very well in the private sector.

If we are to prevent Illinois’ financial ruin, we must dramatically change the way things are done in the Statehouse.  More borrowing, taxing, and spending will only indenture our children for many more years to come.  Legislators need to stop their unchecked spending immediately.  Private-sector accounting practices must be put in place to keep the politicians in check, and the activities of all state agencies must be made public.  Additionally, and unfortunately, deep cuts will also have to be made across the board if Illinois is to survive.  The kind of debt we are now carrying is just not sustainable.

If things continue as they have in Springfield they will only get worse.  The Governor’s plan only gives us more of the same.

Libertarians suggest Nobel announcements should be moved to April Fool’s Day

WASHINGTON – The Libertarian Party today suggested that, in the future, the announcement date every year for Nobel Prizes be moved to April 1.

“Unlike the gullible people who listened to The War of the Worlds radio broadcast in 1938 and thought Martians really were attacking the United States, when I heard this morning that Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, I changed the channel in disbelief. But, the same thing was being said in multiple places,” Libertarian National Committee Chairman William Redpath said.

“The gravity of the Nobel awards has not been augmented by some of their recent selections, including today’s announcement, last year’s award of the Economics prize to Paul Krugman, or the 2007 Peace Prize to Al Gore, whose global warming theories he will not defend in open debate. Maybe an early Springtime announcement date would be more appropriate.”

Redpath continued, “I didn’t know that it was the role of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee to be handicapping the future performance of individuals and organizations. Nonetheless, we congratulate President Obama on his award and hope that three-and-a-quarter or seven-and-a-quarter years from now the Nobel Peace Prize Committee will be seen as prescient.

“President Obama will best fulfill the promise of peace that the Nobel Committee apparently sees in him by not trying to cure all the ills of the world, but by working to make the United States an example for the other nations of the world through implementation of a Libertarian foreign policy–military non-interventionism combined with free trade policies in fact, and not just in rhetoric. With those guiding principles, the world will be a freer, safer and more prosperous planet at the conclusion of the Obama Administration.”

The Libertarian Party of Illinois will be holding their Annual Convention in the month of October 2009. They will be presenting their candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Comptroller, and US Senate. In an era where serious discussions of issues are needed, I had the honor and pleasure of being able to interview Kent Mc Millen who is the Public Relations Chair of the Libertarian Party of Illinois. The following interview was conducted via E Mail.

1. During a recent trip to Baltimore, Maryland [as well as talking with people in Miami Florida], there has been a sense that “Big Brother Is Watching Me”. How can the Libertarian Party tap into this growing discontent with the two party system taking into account the lack of coverage by the mainstream media and the attempts of the governing party to repress alternative ideas?

It will take a combination of hard work, a great message, some great messengers and some luck.  Getting attention is the biggest challenge.  The media is so caught up in the proverbial horse race between the Democrats and Republicans that I believe they do the country a disservice by not reporting more on other political parties and other points of view.  I agree that there is a growing discontent with “Big Brother” but who are you going to turn to?  I don’t believe Republicans  are the party of  small government, Look how the deficit ballooned under George W. Bush. We just have to keep pressing the issue and hope that more citizens will take a look at the Libertarian Party.

2. I have also heard from people who have stated that the problems of America started when people drifted away from the policies of Our Founding Fathers. Glenn Beck even talked about the Progressive Movement of the last century hijacking America. When did the hijacking begin and what can be done about it?

We have evolved from a limited national government to a leviathan in Washington in a  little over two hundred years.  The national government gained power during the civil war, during the early 20′s century with Woodrow Wilson’s programs like the Federal Reserve, with Franklin Roosevelt and the new deal with Social Security, through Lyndon Johnson with Medicare and Medicaid in the 60′s to today, with George Bush and the Patriot Act and President Obama’s proposal of government run health care.  It has all moved in one steady direction, away from limited government and individual choice and freedom. What can be done about it?  Join and support the Libertarian Party and it’s candidates.  We are the only party that adheres to the principles of limited government and individual freedom and with the ability to turn this around.

3. What were the reasons behind the choice of the theme “Don’t Tread On Me” for the LP of Illinois State Convention?

“Don’t Tread on Me” is a slogan that can be found under the Gadsden flag, which is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike.  The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden.  For libertarians, the message is obvious:  LEAVE ME ALONE!

4. Ray Lear is running for Governor, and Jason Dodson is running for Lieutenant Governor after Illinois suffered through an agonizing year of the two party system and the drama of a Senate Seat for sale as well as a Governor who would have been great as a Comic Relief in poor taste. What can Ray Lear and Jason Dodson offer as an alternative to the politics as usual in Illinois?

First of all, Ray and Jason can claim that they are not the party of George Ryan nor the party of Rod Blagojevich, and they are not in the race for personal profit or to award their family and friends.  They will bring a new, fresh approach to governing and will provide the citizens of Illinois with a government that they can be proud of.  They will be able to tune into people’s disgust with the political power structure of this state, because, unlike most people running for state office, they have not been a part of the enabling of the  corruption of Illinois’ past.

5. Julie Fox is running for Comptroller and Mike Labno will be running for the US Senate. What type of campaign will they be able to do in order to galvanize those disenchanted with the two party system?

Similar to what Ray and Jason will be able to do.  Julie has run for state-wide office before and is eminently qualified for the position of Comptroller, since she is a CPA and has a vast amount of professional experience.  Mike will be an alternative candidate to the two major parties, who seem to be running professional politicians.  My understanding is the Mark Kirk is running for the Republicans and Alexi Gianoulis for the Democrats.   I don’t believe either of those two candidates offer anything new.

6. Will Ms. Fox, Mr. Labno, Mr. Lear, and Mr. Dodson be available for interviews? If the answer is yes, I am extending an invitation to them via this interview [as well as other Libertarians running for Public Office]

They most certainly will.

7. What will the Libertarian Party do in dealing with crime and economic blight?

With respect to crime, we need to stop wasting so much time and resources on arresting and imprisoning people for victimless crimes, such as drugs and prostitution.  People that engage in these activities are not hurting anyone except maybe themselves, and we need to release them from prisons and allow law enforcement to focus on crimes in which there is an actual victim.

Libertarians believe in personal responsibility and the empowerment of the individual.  Everyone has to do everything they can to make themselves more marketable and presentable to ensure their own success.  If more people did that, we would have less economic blight.

8. What is Austrian Economics?

Austrian economics is a school of economic thought which emphasizes free market transactions with little or no government involvement.  It is a laissez faire approach to the economy which was advanced by eminent Austrian economics and philosophers.  Some of the more well known individuals associated with Austrian economics are:  Ludwig Van Mises, Friedrich A. Hayek and Murray Rothbard, all of whom are well regarded by Libertarians.

9. What is the meaning of informing an informed citizenry and educated electorate?

We can put an enormous amount of information on a website, but someone has to read it to become informed and educated.  It is each individual’s responsibility to do the proper amount of research to make an informed decision on which candidate best represents their views.  With the internet, it is all there for people to see.  A more active approach to this is the Tea Parties and thd End the Fed rallies, where people actually took to the streets to deliver their message to people who may not have been aware. .

10.  How can the Libertarian Party and others promote market principles at a time when they are attacked or blamed for the current economic crisis?

It’s interesting that no one has anything bad to say about market principles when people make money on the sale of a home or on an investment.  A reasonable person knows that they can lose money on just about anything, and if you read an offering document for a security, the warning that the investment is not insured and you can lose your money  is all over the place. It’s a matter of personal responsibility.   In capitalism, you have winners and losers.  I don’t doubt that there has been greed and corruption on certain parties part over the past several years but an individual has to have the sense to know if they can afford a risky investment or a large house with a big mortgage.  There is no better system than the free market system and allowing the markets to prosper once again is the best solution to the present crisis..     .

11. I once played Jeopardy when a child but what is a Libertarian Jeopardy and how is it played?

Libertarian Jeopardy operates on the same principles, but the answers are from  a more narrow range of subjects, such as the constitution, famous Libertarians, and general questions about government.

12. Halloween themes must be interesting, Could you elaborate on them?

Our convention is being held the week before Halloween, so we are planning to decorate with a “Haloween ambiance” on Friday evening.  I wouldn’t doubt if some folks come in costume.

I would like to thank you Kent and the LP of Illinois for taking the time to answer these questions.

It is always a pleasure Roberto.  Thank you.

I am extending an invitation to Ms. Fox, Mr. Labno, Mr. Lear, and Mr. Dodson to be interviewed.

With unemployment skyrocketing, Libertarians suggest real stimulus

GOP, Dems debate passing another spending expansion, despite past failures
WASHINGTON — America’s third largest party Thursday criticized Democrat and Republican leaders in Congress for suggesting that rising unemployment can be solved by passing another “stimulus” government expansion, or by spending current appropriations more quickly.  Libertarians propose an alternate package of tax and regulatory relief that will create the jobs Americans need.

When Congress passed President Barack Obama’s “stimulus” package early this year the White House stated the spending expansion would keep unemployment below eight percent.  It instead skyrocketed to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent, which Republicans blame on not spending the money fast enough and Democrats claim is reason to pass another, similar bill.

“While Democrats are proposing another several hundred billion dollars on dog parks and ACORN recruiting and Republicans are complaining Obama isn’t spending stimulus money fast enough, Libertarians are focused on growth policies that create the jobs Americans need,” said Donny Ferguson, Libertarian National Committee Communications Director.

“We can start by preserving the 2001 and 2003 pro-growth tax cuts, scale back taxes on investments so job creators can expand their businesses, reduce taxes on individuals so Americans will have more money to save and meet basic needs and reduce unnecessary and unneeded federal regulations that

are stopping employers from creating jobs,” said Ferguson.  “The Libertarian Party is the only party in America with a proven plan to create the jobs Americans need.”

“Poll after poll shows Americans are skeptical of trying to spend our way to prosperity.  Poll after poll also shows they agree with the Libertarian Party that government cannot create wealth.  It’s no wonder that’s why Americans are showing a growing interest in the Libertarian Party’s common-sense, reasonable and proven job growth policies.”

For more information on this issue, or to arrange an interview with the Libertarian Party, please call Director of Communications Donny Ferguson at 703-200-3669 or email Donny.Ferguson@lp.org.

The Libertarian Party is America’s third-largest political party, founded in 1971 as an alternative to the two main political parties.  You can find more information on the Libertarian Party by visiting http://www.LP.org. The Libertarian Party proudly stands for smaller government, lower taxes and more freedom
