The recent deaths of Barry Gibbs of the Bee Gees and Donna Summer has people wandering about the future of true rock and pop music. Many have been complaining with justification about the death of rock and pop music and its replacement with generic bland music that is mediocre.

The trend appears to point in the direction with the music conglomerates cramming such music and their artists down the throats of consumers. It appears that the conglomerates in Hollywood and New York are winning the battle or are they?

If generic bland mediocre artists with their so called music and sponsors from the conglomerates are winning is because the people allow this to happen. The people who love music are masters of their own domain and do not have to take perpetual stupidity from the conglomerates and their make shift artists.

After all, generic bland mediocre artists and their music is a violation of human rights. It is torture to the ear as well as the eye. For starters, rock, pop, jazz , Latin fusion and country music is alive and kicking on many areas of the United States of America as well as the world.

Texas and Oklahoma

The Lone Star State of Texas and the Sooner State of Oklahoma are one of the state’s leading the revival of great music. Oklahoma has one of the greatest artists in the form of Shawna Russell who released a self titled album.

Ms. Russell is leading the way to true music with hits such as “Sounds Like A Party” blasting through the streets of Main Street America. Ms. Russell is a down to earth singer with a thorough recognition of Country and Rock Music.

Christen Sawyer is another rocker who has a grip on the music with her song “Crazy”. Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Russell are the new generation of rock music with an edge that could give Taylor Swift a run for her money. The reason is [personal opinion aside] that Ms. Sawyer and Ms. Russell are better than Ms. Swift.

Karen Chisholm is another artist whose music transcends boundaries of all types. She recorded “A Perfect World” and made a film (and video) based on the music. Ms. Chisholm also recorded “Random Year” which is a reflection based on the realities of life. Ms. Chisholm is proof that rock music is alive and kicking.

Who can forget other artists such as Jessica Shepherd, Deann Rene, John Arthur Martinez, and Mark Allan Atwood? What about Chip Murrey and Texas Underground as well as Vanessa Peters?

Jessica Shepherd does a great job in combining Rock, Country, and Gospel with songs such as “Pray For Peace and Love” and “Get A Ride With God” in the Rockin Gospel Project.

Deann Rene has some of the greatest rock music in the 21st Century. John Arthur Martinez has some great hits from his album “Utopia” as well as a song called “Cajita De Milagros” which is number one on those who loves great music.

Mark Allan Atwood as well as Chip Murrey and Texas Underground have music that can stun even the mediocre artists. Mr. Atwood’s album “How Country” is an example of such power that provides an alternative to the mediocrity of today’s music.

Chip Murrey and Texas Underground delivers a powerful Texas Progressive Rock to those who need it. The concerts given by Chip Murrey and Texas Underground are so popular because of the musical edge. If there is any doubt, their hit album “Pay Dirt” will convince you.

Vanessa Peters is an artist whose fame has reached the world from Texas. Her album titled “Thin Thread” is an example of how fresh and pure music can be. Ms. Peters even recorded a Christmas album with the title: “The Christmas We Hoped For”.

The song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” from the Christmas album is one of the most powerful songs in the album. The message in the song rings loud and clear. It means that no material good can replace true love whether it is a significant other or a family member. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that the song touched my heart in a profound way.

What about Nicolette Good, Laura Marie, Vanessa Lively, and Chris Taylor? Nicolette Good convinces people with her music and delivers a powerful message of hope with her song “All My Crying”.

Laura Marie with her song “Good Enough” challenges a pair to accept each other for what they are is a great antidote to the banality of mainstream music. Laura Marie also delivers a rendition of “The Cherry Tree Carol” with depth, emotion, and style that leaves people imagining the scene of the Holy Family. Laura Marie’s rendition of “The Cherry Tree Carol” also touches the heart and soul in a personal manner.

The same can be said about the rendition of “Angels We Have Heard On High” by Chris Taylor. It is these songs that sooth the heart and soul. Vanessa Lively with her rendition of “Alleluia” and “Los Hermanos” is an alternative to the banality of mainstream conglomerate music for its down to earth freshness.

Who cannot forget about Brenda Kay and her music? Her rendition of Red Dirt music is an example for future generation of singers and musicians. We cannot forget Katherine Dawn and her music.

Katherine Dawn has nearly three decades of musical experience under her belt. Ms. Dawn’s rendition of “San Marcos River” is a classic that could compete with greats such as Linda Ronstadt.

I remember hearing Katherine Dawn’s music while living in Venezuela. It was during a visit to a friend’s house and the cassette player was on.

The friend was from Oklahoma but she spent time between Oklahoma and Texas. She told me that the singer was Katherine Dawn. I tried to find the music but lost contact with it until recently.

I now hear Katherine Dawn’s music regularly on the internet and enjoy it. The same applies to the music of Debbie Forrest which has been instrumental in getting people closer to God.

Grupo Fantasma with their mixture of Santana, Fania, and Cumbia are also great. Their latest album called “El Existential” is an album that is great and exciting from the beginning to the end.

The group appeared in Austin City Limits and NPR to wide acclaim. One of Grupo Fantasma’s songs “Mentira” is made in the true Latin Jazz and Cumbia fashion. Another reason why the music is alive.

The Midwest Meets Nashville

Jim Callahan recently recorded an album titled “The Poet” which is becoming popular. The album is an example of folk music mixed with rock and country which gives people an image of simple living.

It is an album that deserves to be on the shelves of music lovers and proof that the music is still alive. Jim Callahan who is originally from Ohio even did his version of “The Night Before Christmas” which was lively and better than the original version.

Jessica Rae is another example of how the Midwest meets Nashville. The Chicago, Illinois native is lively and down to earth in her concerts as well as her music.

I had the honor of meeting Ms. Rae during the 2011 Key West Singer Songwriter Festival. She is a decent and caring human being who is concerned for the welfare of the USA as well as its music.

Jim Callahan and Jessica Rae are also proof that the music is still alive and kicking.

Latin America Meets Tennessee

Johnny Vasquez is a Guatemalan singer who currently lives in Tennessee. The pop and romantic ballads that he interprets harkens to a day when music was sincere.

What can be said about his music comes from his album “Lo Mejor De Mi”. The album is one of the greatest in today’s world with its lyrics and melodies.

Johnny Vasquez sings a romantic tune in a way that today’s singers and musicians do not. He does it with the heart and soul of a true romantic.

Johnny Vasquez is another reason why the music regardless of the language is still alive and kicking.

North Carolina

Amanda Pollard is one of the few artists who managed to capture the essence of true R&B as well as Soul music. It is for this reason that she is also called The American Diva of the 21st Century.

Ms. Pollard was born in Michigan which was the home of the Motown sound. She moved to North Carolina where she advanced in the music scene. Ms. Pollard has received praise for her style of singing with different vocals such as “Loss For Words”.

Amanda Pollard is the latest in the long line of divas from Ella Fitzgerald, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, and Beyonce. Amanda Pollard is also an expert in presenting great entertaining shows with her dancers while performing.

The music that is interpreted by Ms. Pollard is stunning and refreshing to the point that continents such as Asia and Latin America are taking notice. Amanda Pollard is another example of how the music is still alive.

California

While the conglomerates are with the bland generic brand of music, The Fashion Slaves are heating the airwaves and streets in this state and the world. The Fashion Slaves with Emily Jayne recorded “Psychotic Reaction” and a revolution in music was born.

The Fashion Slaves are another example of fresh rock music that is out of this world. The group can be compared to The Pretenders and Blondie. Emily Jayne is the logical successor to Debbie Harry and Chrissie Hynde in the rock music today.

It is hoped that one day they can perform in Florida since they are a blast.

Florida

Nil Lara is a Cuban-American singer songwriter who has combined the music of Cuba, Venezuela [where he lived], and South Florida to form his own style. Mr. Lara has come a long way from his birthplace in New Jersey.

His best songs are “Vida Mas Simple” and “My First Child” which reflect a yearning for a simpler time. The concerts of Nil Lara are also great to attend with the artist making the public feel great.

Heather Leigh is a great example of how rock and country music can mix with the word of God. She was once nominated for an Emmy for her song “Paradise Lost” which dealt with the BP Oil Spill on the Coast of Mexico.

Ms. Leigh also has a jazz band and is an example of resilience in front of adversity.

Conclusion

The music has not died; it is still present if people were to reject the mediocre music around them. One way is to listen to the old hits but another way is to listen to the above mentioned artists whose name have been highlighted bold.

The reasons the names of the artists are highlighted bold is so that the public can Google their names and buy the albums as well as go to the concerts. The above mentioned artists are also on You Tube.

In the year 2010, I predicted that Heather Leigh [the Florida Christian Music Singer] would go places. I have visited her webpages many times and the conclusion is: Heather Leigh is the versatile singer for America and the world in the 21st Century.

I invited her to be interviewed and she took time from her busy schedule for this interview. The rest is history.

1. What inspired you to record a song for the military?
I actually started writing the song as just  a love song, but when I posted some of the lyrics on facebook, a military wife messaged me and said, “That’s exactly how I feel!” So, I set out to finish the rest of the song with that in mind.  I feel like there’s a lot of songs that salute the military who have served or are serving (as well there should be), but I wanted a song that was dedicated to those family members who get left behind to hold down the fort while their gone.  “With You” is my ‘thank you’ to the ones who let their loved ones serve.

2. What motivated you to audition for The Voice?
My son, actually!  He kept saying, “Come on, mama….me and you!  We’re gonna audition for The Voice!”  I thought it would be fun to go with him and experience the audition, so I submitted my entry…..of course, he’s procrastinating now and hasn’t submitted his application!  But I’m going!  Next month in Orlando, so keep me in your prayers!

3. For how long have you been involved in the campaign to get rid of breast cancer?

I have been a nurse in radiology for 10 years now.  I am heavily involved with the breast biopsy process and helping women during a very anxious time.  But it’s not just my job.  I donate a lot of my singing to breast cancer events.  In fact, this Friday I’ll be singing at the Pitch for Pink game at Bright House Field in Clearwater and next month, on August 26th, I’ll be performing at the Hoedown for Hooters at The Roundup in Tampa.  Both events are to benefit breast cancer research.

4. How important is God in your life and career?

Couldn’t do it without Him.  Period.  I’m learning that He and I don’t always see eye to eye on how things should be, but He’s waaaaaay smarter than me!  It’s a journey…a process of learning to trust Him with everything.  But honestly, after my accident, I realized how fragile I really am and how much I need Him every day to do what I do.

5. What are your plans with regards to tours?

I would love to tour some time, for sure!  It’s very difficult to designate a set month or two and leave everything behind, so for right now, I stay in Florida for the most part.

6. Will there be any new albums released this year or next year?

Second Chances was just released this February.  My next project is going to be a collection of love songs, but I don’t have a set timeframe for that just yet.

7. What is your message for your readers?

Thank you for your continued interest and support in my music.  Feel free to friend me on Facebook (Heather Leigh Wainscott), follow me on Twitter (1heatherleigh1), send me a message on my website www.heatherleighsound.com or watch the military video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMwIMIy5W6U  Also, I would appreciate your prayers for the upcoming process with The Voice!

I would like to thank Heather Leigh for accepting my invitation for an interview. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors including you next album “Second Chances”.

Heather Leigh released a song and video called “With You”. Since then, it has been mentioned in many parts of Florida and the USA.

I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing Heather Leigh about her new production. The rest is history.

1. What was the inspiration behind the song “With You”?

Actually, it started out as a challenge from a friend!  He had watched
my sad love song on YouTube (user Heatherleigh2009) called “Without You”
and he said, “That was so sad! You should write a nice song called ‘With
You’ instead!”  So, I started writing it.
But after it started coming out, I posted some of the lyrics on my
Facebook site, and immediately I got a response from a military wife and
she said, “That’s EXACTLY how I feel!” and so I ran with that theme
afterwards.
‘With You’ has turned into a long-distance love song dedicated to military
wives to honor the sacrifice that they make, as well.  There are a lot of
patriotic songs and songs honoring our servicemen (and their should be!)
but I wanted to say a special thank you to the families that they leave
behind.

2. How long did it take you to record the song and the video “With You”?

It only took me one evening to write the song.  Within 24 hours of
posting a rough demo on facebook, I had an offer from Main Street
Studios to film the music video!  I believe that was in February.
I spent one day in the recording studio getting the audio track done.
It’s just piano and vocal, because we wanted it to have a very intimate
feel.
We’ve had 6 different location shoots over the last couple of months and
now it’s in the editing stage!  I can’t wait to see it!

3. Where will the premiere of the video “With You” be held?

The premiere party is Friday, May 27th, at 7:00pm at Buffalo Wild Wings
in Clearwater, Florida.  They have graciously offered to play the music
video for the first time on their screens!  I’m so excited!  Everyone’s
invited, so come on out!
After the premiere party, then we will be releasing the video on YouTube
and posting it on my website.  We are hoping that everyone will spread it
around and send it to everyone in their mailing list!

4. Will you be doing any tours with the new hit?

Still no tours in the works.  I am performing with both bands locally
right now and all those dates can be found at www.heatherleighsound.com
If someone out there would like us to come perform in their area, send a
message to booking@heatherleighsound.com

Thanks, Roberto, so much for your continued interest and support of my music!
Heather

For me Heather, it is an honor and pleasure to support singer songwriters like you. Keep up the great work.

Heather Leigh has just released a second CD Called “Second Chances” and formed a new band called Deja Blue which is jazz oriented.  I invited her for another interview and she took time off her busy schedule. The rest is here.

1. How was Deja Blue formed?

I have always loved old school jazz music and even performed for a short

time with a classical guitarist.  But I kind of put that on the back

burner when I started writing my own music.  But one day I was

approached by a jazz pianist and he wanted to know if I was interested

in starting up a jazz band.  Even though I already had a band, I

couldn’t pass up the opportunity to perform jazz and  blues.  I just

LOVE it!

We hadn’t named ourselves at all until just recently.  We got booked for a

huge gig in Leesburg and they wanted to advertise for us……and we

didn’t have a name!  So i was driving down to perform in St. Petersburg,

and I saw a sign for “Deja Vu” and and I said, “DEJA BLUE!!  That’s it!!!”

 2. Have you started to work on a CD with Deja Blue?

Deja Blue hasn’t started any projects just yet.  My goal is to start

writing original music for us to perform and record.  Right now, we

perform a lot of old 40′s jazz cover tunes.

3. Will you perform with Deja Blue in America and the world?

We are hoping to get performing on a regular basis.  Deja Blue is pretty

new, so we are still working on getting our repetoire built up!  So if

anyone wants a good jazz band, look us up!  (ps-we still need a jazz

drummer if anyone is interested!)

 4. How are you able to balance a Jazz Band With A Rock and Country Band?

It is very difficult to keep up with it all!  In addition to the two bands,

I have 3 kids, 3 dogs, and a full time job.  But just like anything in

life, if it is important to you, you find the time.  I am busy

practicing, writing, or performing almost every single night of the

week.  Every once in a while, I just have to shut everything down for

the night….no music, no computer, no housework….no nothing….and

just crawl into bed at 7pm and recharge!  LOL

5. Will your Jazz Band feature Christian Themes?

Right now, Deja Blue is performing a lot of the jazz standards and

classics by legendary artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.

We also add in some blues and some spirituals as well, but we are

sticking more to a secular theme with Deja Blue.

 6. What was the inspiration behind “Second Chances”?

Ahhh…Second Chances.  Well, when we were trying to come up with a name

for the band, we were all discussing our second chances in life.  Those

times when God did amazing, miraculous things and showed us mercy.  It

only seemed right to call the band “Second Chances”  After that, I

decided we really needed a theme song!  So, I started writing the song

“Second Chances”  It’s about letting go of things that hold us back and

grabbing those second chances in life!  The other songs on the EP are a

mixture of styles.  “You’ll Never Let me Go” is a bluesy tune.  “There’s

Somethin’ in the Water” is a bluegrass/southern gospel kinda toe-tappin’

song.  “I Will Trust You” is a ballad I wrote when my vocal cord was

paralyzed and I thought I wouldn’t sing again.  All the songs on the EP

are meant to encourage and uplift the spirit.  To remind us to be kind

to one another and love each other.

7. How long did it take you to record “Second Chances”?

I made all of the music myself, outside of the studio.  So we only spent

two days in the studio itself recording all of the vocals.  But some of

the songs on “Second Chances” have been years in the making!  “What She

Didn’t Know” I have written, thrown away, re-written, and thrown away,

and re-written for a long time!  LOL

8. Where can the people who love your music purchase “Second Chances”?

Digital downloads can be found on Napster here:

9. Any message for the public?

Yes, I would like to thank everyone so much for their support,

encouragement, and love.  I pray that you would find something in my

music that sparks you, comforts you, inspires you, and moves you.  It is

why I write.  :)

Your music is an alternative to the mainstream music and soothes the soul. Thank you for your time in this interview.

Heather Leigh is one of the latest singers originating from the realm of Christian Contemporary Music. Her debut CD which is titled “Learn and Live” has reached the charts in many areas of the United States of America.

I had the honor and pleasure of hearing her debut CD and have the feeling that she will eventually be popular around the world. The voice of Heather Leigh is like that of an angel and her personality is down to earth.

The music style of Heather Leigh has been the combination of all the genre of American culture such as Jazz, Country, and Soft Rock combined into the words of a belief in God.

The songs that come from Heather Leigh appears to have been written by her and inspired from God. Two of the songs which celebrates love are titled “New” and “This”.

The songs deal with what a man will say to his love on the day of the wedding with a reply from the woman. The verses are used as dedications for couples who are getting married but who have trouble finding the words to express their deep love.

Heather Leigh also experienced a life changing experience which has helped her appreciate God and life more. It is also a story that has served as an inspiration to humanity.

While she started singing as a baby, an accident almost ended her singing career before it got off the ground. She fell down a staircase and landed on the handrail neck first.

The result was a right vocal cord that was barely hanging after examination. The recommendation of her Physician was six month rest without singing.

During her time of rest, she rested and started to think about songs that she would compose. She also reinforced the need to smile as a positive facial expression.

The result were two of the greatest hits which are called ‘Learn and Live” and ” Second Chances”. The songs reflected on the period of silence that Heather Leigh had to undergo and the lessons learned.

The song “Whatever You Need” made me feel about love in all of its spheres. It gives the underwriter a sense of tranquility. The song “Swept Away” reminded the underwriter of his time with his wife and daughter. The lesson being time is the essence for family.

‘Wrecked” was another song that reminded the underwriter of his trips to the Florida Keys with his wife and daughter especially the trip via the Florida Turnpike and US 1.

Heather Leigh is one of the greatest singers who deserves to be heard and will be a force to be reckoned with in 2011 and beyond. It is this reason that she deserves to be called one of the Florida’s finest in Christian Music

In this period of Christmas, I had the honor and pleasure of inviting the famous Florida Singer/Songwriter Heather Leigh to be interviewed. She accepted after writing an article in The Alvarez-Galloso News Hour an article about Christmas.

The interview was done by E Mail.

1. How did you get started in music?

My Parents say I sang from my crib as a baby before I could even talk!

My grandpa was a Baptist minister and my mom and her sisters always sang

together.  It was just a natural part of everyday life growing up to

sing and make music.  I began playing the piano when I was seven and

starting writing my own music when I was a teenager

2. I read in your webpage that you suffered an injury to your vocal cords.

> During the injury, the doctors that treated you said that you may never

> sing

> again. What was your reaction to the news? How did you cope with the news?

> How did God play a part in helping you recover from your injury?

>   I fell down a staircase and landed neck-first on the handrail.  It

paralyzed my right vocal cord.  When the doctors scoped my throat, the

right vocal cord was just hanging….they said I may never sing again.

I was absolutely devastated.  I have always sung and it was as

natural as breathing to me.  I felt as though the very essence of who

I was, was ripped away.  I spent a long six months of vocal rest,

therapy, and prayer.  But I learned so much during that time.  I

learned the importance of facial expressions and a smile.  I learned

that there are other ways to worship God besides singing.  I learned

that I could still write songs, even if I could never sing them.  And

the most important lesson I learned was that my voice did not define

who I was, God defined me.

I truly believe that God had to quiet me….make me still for a while…so

I could listen and learn.  And so that I could understand that I needed to

use His gifts and never take them for granted.

3. How many tours do you do a year?

>   I haven’t gone on an official “tour”.  My band plays in different

venues in Florida throughout the year and I took a trip to Nashville

earlier this year.  I’m going back in January, too!  We would love to

get a tour set up soon, though.  :)

> 4. What is your advice to those who want a career in music?

Just keep going if it’s what you love to do.  You’re going to hear “no”

alot.  You’re going to get rejected.  But if you truly believe in the

music you create, it will resonate with people.  Take every performance

and go all-out, as though it were your last performance.  Passionate

performances outweigh perfect performances any day!

>

> 5. What is your message to your fans and the world for the Christmas

> season

> and beyond?

>   I would like to thank all of my fans for believing in my music.

Without the support of my fans buying the music and embracing me as an

artist, my music doesn’t mean a thing.  For this Christmas season and

the new year that lies ahead, I wish you joy, peace, love, and lots of

wonderful music!

> I would like to thank you for accepting my invitation to be interviewed

> and

> for your comments about the true meaning of Christmas. It was one of the

> greatest Christmas gifts received in my life [along with my wife and

> daughter].

You are more than welcome, Roberto. It was my pleasure!  Thanks for your

interest!

I have interviewed many artists in this blog. One day, I visited the blog of a Christian Singer from Florida whose name is Heather Leigh. She is fanous for her debut album.

I have  invited her to be interviewed and to participate in our Christmas special about the true meaning of Christmas. Here is what she wrote for the true meaning of Christmas.

Christmas by Heather Leigh

Christmas has many meanings for me.  First of foremore, it is the
celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.  It is a time to reflect on
God’s love for us….sending his son to earth. Beyond that, Christmas
means family.  Spending time together.  Keeping family traditions during
the season.
For me, personally, Christmas is also about music!  Every year, those
classic songs are played and I get to perform them at multiple shows
during December.  I have so much fun singing both sacred and secular
Christmas music.  :)
