Seattle Sounders managed to defeat the visiting team of Isidro Metapan of El Salvador by one goal. Freddy Montero of Sounders was able to score within 60 minutes with a 40 meter center kick that surprised the Isidro Metapan goalkeeper Misael Alfaro who allowed the ball to go into his net.

Freddy Montero scored his sixth goal for the Sounders in the 2010 Season with this goal after replacing Nate Jacqua. The game itself was intense, with the Sounders dominating from the beginning with their consistency and discipline.

The Sounders also had the hometown advantage against one of the most powerful teams in El Salvador. Reagrdless of such advantages, there were failed attempts at scoring a goal before Montero.

James Riley who is the fullback to the Sounders was able to strike through the right flank and play the ball to Nyassi. Nyassi was then able to connect with Montano who then allowed the ball to go off the intended target.

Osvaldo Alonso was able to take a free kick from the 18 yard box edge after a dangerous kick by Eirck Prado who is the defender for Metapan but it was deflected. Roger Levesque and Michael Seamon attempted another kick which was also deflected.

Misael Alfaro attempted an equalizer for the Isidro Metapan in the last minute of the game. The result was that the ball deflected at the Seattle Sounder Goalpost.

The Sounders and Isidro Metapan are expecting to have a rematch at the Estadio Jorge Calero Suarez in El Salvador on August 3 2010. It remains to be seen whether the Sounders will survive the rematch or Isidro Metapan could turn the tables on them.

The winner of the rematch will go ahead to the Group Stage and will be form part of Group C with Monterrey, Saprissa, and/or Marathon or Tauro.

Seattle Wins A Second MLS Kick Off Game

The Seattle Sounders played their first game as an MLS Franchise in the 2009 MLS Kick Off. The result was a victory of 3-0 over the New York Red Bulls. It appears that history repeated itself as the team played in their home state in front of a crowd of more than 36,000 people.

The opponents were the Philadelphia Union which was making its debut as an MLS Franchise for the year 2010. The Seattle Sounders FC did not disappoint its fans at Qwest Stadium.

Seattle played with an organization and discipline that was present in the 2009 MLS Kick Off. They also had the tenacity as well as the home field advantage that Philadelphia lacked.

The result was that Brad Evans scored the first goal of the game and season followed by Freddy Montero. Freddy Montero scored the second goal by knocking the ball on his head directly into the goal net. Philadelphia was surprised at what transpired. The rest of the game was just simply maintaining the momentum and avoid any attempts at a comeback by Philadelphia.

The Seattle Sounders FC now has to maintain the momentum and not have a repeat of their 2009 MLS Season in which they started well but then went on a decline. They may have to face favourites such as the CD Chivas USA and Columbus Crew.

The Philadelphia Union fumbled on their debut. It is expected that a team that has been recently formed as a franchise may or may not win its first game. It depends on the attitude as well as the organization and discipline which was lacking in the Philadelphia Union.

It appeared that Philadelphia suffered from shock and awe as Seattle showed its dominance of the field and game to the world. It also did not help that Danny Califf received a yellow card for knocking Montero to the field.

Toni Stahl tried the same tactic and received the first red card of the MLS Season. Philadelphia was demoralized with what has transpired and did not recover. In the end, Seattle triumphed.

The player of the game deserves to be Brad Evans for scoring the first goal of the opening game of the MLS. Freddy Montero deserves to be honoured for his way of scoring a goal.

It remains to be seen what will happen during the 2010 MLS Season but it has started with plenty of excitement.
