Daily Kos and Blue Majority Endorses Joe Garcia

Publicado en Elecciones, Joe Garcia by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 23rd, 2008

The momentum just keeps on growing!

Joe picked up a major endorsement yesterday. The world’s most widely read political blog, the Daily Kos, endorsed Joe’s candidacy. We were also endorsed by Blue Majority, a coalition of the most influential political blogs in the country.

In its endorsement, the Kos stated, “There are a few races around the country that will help shape the post-election spin…Throw FL-25 (and its sister races) on that list.”

The netroots are changing our country’s politics and they have endorsed Joe Garcia because they believe in his capacity to change the broken ways of Washington.

We are at a transformational moment in South Florida history and Joe is leading the way with a new vision for our community:

- Revitalizing our economy

- Quality healthcare that’s affordable, accessible and reliable

- A real plan to save our Everglades and combat global climate change

- Fixing a Washington that’s broken

- A safe and responsible end to the Iraq War

These are the issues that Joe is talking about. This is why a local campaign is now turning into a national movement.

Keep up the momentum!

Empty Chair Charlie Crist [Democrats]

Publicado en Charlie Crist, Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 18th, 2008

In the first month and a half of 2008, Governor Crist took off more week days than he workedshowing up less than 50% of the time.[Governor’s Public Schedule, Jan. 1-Feb. 13, 2008]When Charlie Crist ran for Governor in 2006, he spent millions on infamous “Empty Chair” television ads to attack Democratic candidate Jim Davis. These ubiquitous ads, which featured an empty chair rolling along the streets of Washington, DC, were largely credited as Crist’s most memorable attack on Davis.

The Republican Party of Florida even brought back the “empty chair” concept to attack Democrats in late 2007.

Unfortunately for the people of Florida, the real empty chair – Charlie Crist – won.

These days, Floridians are more likely to see their Governor’s perpetually sunny face in the background of a McCain campaign press conference than working to deal with the state’s economic crisis.

Empty Chair Charlie Crist [Democrats]

Publicado en Charlie Crist, Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 18th, 2008

In 2006, Charlie Crist ran for Governor on a populist platform, pledging to be the “People’s Governor,” offering glimpses off a bright future for Florida on the horizon.

But now we learn that he hasn’t showed up for work even half of the time. Where is Charlie Crist when we need him? His fellow Republicans have run amok in the State Legislature. Empty Chair Charlie’s absenteeism and lack of leadership is a disservice to all Floridians.

We’ve had enough of the endless electioneering and infinite photo ops. Contrary to GOP delusions, we’re now mired in a Republican Recession. The Governor has been getting a free pass from the media, but his hypocrisy is apparent.

He said he would come to work every day, but he doesn’t. And we’ve got real problems to deal with in Florida. I don’t know about you, but I’m concerned about rising insurance costs and living in the state leading the housing industry meltdown. I make sacrifices every day to make sure I can provide for my family, pay for gas, and afford healthcare.

I’m certainly in a different position than Governor Crist. I don’t have access to lavish private jets and can’t define my own hours. But I do know the difference between hard work and hardly working.

I know Florida can’t afford to adopt a three-day work week. Charlie Crist shouldn’t be able to get away with doing so, especially considering his promise to work hard for the people.

Enough with Empty Chair Charlie Crist [Democrats]

Publicado en Charlie Crist, Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 18th, 2008

Enough with Empty Chair Charlie Crist

-In the first month and a half of 2008, Governor Crist took off more week days than he worked – showing up less than 50% of the time. [Governor’s Public Schedule, Jan. 1-Feb. 13, 2008]

-Charlie Crist relentlessly attacked his Democratic opponent in 2006, Jim Davis, by saying “Jim, as you know, you can’t govern from an empty chair.” [Gubernatorial Debate 10/24/06] The accompanying ad campaign should offer enough proof that Charlie’s memory can’t be that bad. We need to hold him to the standard he once claimed he would exhibit.

-Another famous Republican thought he could effectively govern while taking extended hiatus trips. We all saw just what George Bush cooked up while tending to his Texas ranch: a disastrous recession, the never ending war in Iraq, and a full slate of domestic and international problems that don’t look to be settled anytime soon.

-Right now, Florida is facing serious problems in most aspects of our society. This full-fledged Republican Recession requires hard work and solutions – not rhetoric. What has Governor Crist offered in terms of relief to our insurance, housing and recession woes? Where will he direct us in regards to education, healthcare and the immediate state budget crunch? As we scream for solutions, all Governor Crist offers are express travels on the John McCain tour.

The Florida Democratic Party has picked up nine house seats in the State Legislature and dozen of other local municipal elections. Democrats now seem to be the clear pick as the people’s preference.

No Hay Primarias en la Florida/ There are No Florida Primaries

Publicado en Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 18th, 2008

Los Democratas de la Florida rechazaron la propuesta para una primaria por correo. Estamos en veremos con lo que sucede. El Partido Democratico de la Florida estan buscando una solucion para la situacion precaria de los delegados en la Convencion,

According to WFOR 4 News in Miami Florida, the Democratic Party of Florida voted NOT to repeat the Florida Primary saying it was unrealistic. Now there is an attempt to placate the Obama and Clinton Factions in Florida. The Obama Faction says NO to delegates from Florida going to the Democratic Convention while the Clinton Factor says “Yes”. This soap opera never seems to end but it is enjoyable.

Contradiccion en la Politica

Publicado en Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 11th, 2008

Nelson & FCC

Publicado en Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 10th, 2008

Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about media ownership. Like you, I want to preserve diversity in broadcast media and oppose additional media consolidation.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is examining certain proposals that may result in a further relaxation of the rules governing broadcast media ownership. I am concerned that any further relaxation of the ownership limits would allow large media companies to dominate the market, thus discouraging diversity and harming localism.

On October 24, 2007, I sent a letter, which was cosigned by Senator Snowe, to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin expressing concern over his comments in the press indicating that he intended to expedite a rule-making to relax or repeal many of the FCC’s current media ownership rules.

I am also an original cosponsor of the bipartisan Media Ownership Act of 2007 (S. 2332), which was introduced by Senators Dorgan and Lott on November 8, 2007. This legislation would require the FCC to finish long-pending proceedings on localism and diversity in broadcast media before moving forward with any new ownership rules. After those proceedings are completed, the bill also would require a 90-day period for public review and comment on any new national media ownership rules prior to their adoption by the FCC.

As a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction over the communications industry, I have voted for S. 2332 and will continue to monitor this issue closely. I appreciate your sharing your thoughts with me. Your views help me to serve you better in the Senate.

P.S. From time to time, I compile electronic news briefs highlighting key issues and hot topics of particular importance to Floridians. If you’d like to receive these e-briefs, visit my Web site and sign up for them at http://billnelson.senate.gov/news/ebriefs.cfm

La Florida y Michigan Discriminados por los Democratas

Publicado en Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 7th, 2008

Florida and Michigan Unjustly Punished

Publicado en Elecciones by alvarezgalloso on Marzo 7th, 2008

The controversy of the Florida and Michigan Delegates started when both states

held their primaries ahead of schedule and against the decision of the Democratic

National Committee. The Florida and Michigan Democratic Party thought that their

vote would not count in the case of other states primaries. The Florida and

Michigan Democratic Party received a stern warning from the Democratic National

Committee of not having their delegates recognized if they held their vote. The

Democratic National Committee also warned that their primaries would be non

binding. When does the Democratic National Committee suddenly decide that a

vote is valid or not? It is sheer hypocrisy that the Democratic Party has promoted

the concept of freedom and human rights around the world but decide that the

Florida and Michigan Votes are worth nothing. It appears that the Democratic Party

and The Democratic National Committee have lost touch with the common people.

The Democratic Party of Michigan and Florida is willing to hold another Primary

before June 2008 but the fact that people braved rain, snow, winds, taking the day

off from work, or even forming lines after work in order to exercise their right to vote

the first time around should mean that the earlier Primary Results should stand as

they are and be accepted as valid. The Democratic Party and the Democratic

National Committee should accept the results as they are and accept the delegates

from Florida and Michigan or drop the name Democratic as their party name. The

Democratic Party and The Democratic National Committee should take into

account their members who voted in these Primaries because holding another

primary may eventually question the legitimacy of the Primaries, Caucuses, and the

Electoral College.

The fact that the Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee have

decided to hold hostage their followers in Michigan and Florida as to whether their

vote counts or not reveals that they are the party of democracy and freedom when

its suits their interests. I am talking about the same Democratic Party and

Democratic National Committee who blames Ralph Nader and the Green Party for

their defeat in 2004 when in fact that the votes did not even affect the outcome of

the 2004 Election. I am also talking about the same Democratic Party who

collaborated with the Republican Party in Ohio in 2004 to nullify the 57,000

signatures in a petition by the Libertarian Party to place Michael Badnarik on the

Ballot for President of the United States. I am also talking about the same

Democratic and Republican Party who have held the nation hostage with their talk,

no action, and lots of loss of freedom. I challenge the Democratic Party and the

Democratic National Committee to grow up, practice the art of freedom, respect the

vote of Florida and Michigan, and allow the delegates of Florida and Michigan to

take their places amongst their fellow delegates or drop the name “Democratic”

from their party name.
