FROM THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY:
As Castro fades, so should the embargo
Libertarian Party says old Cuban policy has got to go
Quick Quotes:
William Redpath, National Chairman, Libertarian Party
• “The current U.S. policy towards Cuba hurts American businesses by denying them access to the Cuban market, which in turn hurts the Cuban people by denying them the benefits of trade with the United States.”
• “There have been two victims of the 45-year embargo on Cuba, and neither are the Cuban government.”
• “American agriculture and trade industries have been throttled by the United States sanctions on Cuba by denying them the ability to trade freely.”
• “The Unites States needs to increase engagement with the Cuba instead of continuing a foreign policy that hurts both Americans and Cubans alike.”
Washington, D.C. - The Libertarian Party of the United States is calling for a change in American foreign policy with Cuba, saying the current policy hurts American businesses and Cuban citizens. “The current U.S. policy towards Cuba hurts American businesses by denying them access to the Cuban market, which in turn hurts the Cuban people by denying them the benefits of trade with the United States,” says William Redpath, national chairman of the Libertarian Party.
“There have been two victims of the 45-year embargo on Cuba, and neither are the Cuban government,” says Redpath. “American agriculture and trade industries have been throttled by the United States’ sanctions on Cuba by restricting their ability to trade freely. The loss of trade with Cuba in turn harms the Cuban people, who would enjoy higher-income salaries through trade with American corporations and through increased American tourism. Instead of the Cuban government suffering from U.S.-Cuba foreign policy, it has been American enterprise and the Cuban society.”
The Libertarian Party believes that lifting travel restrictions, as well as other sanctions that directly target the Cuban people, will open the Cuban market to trade with American corporations that are currently not allowed to conduct business with Cuba. Many U.S. agricultural and business organizations also support normalizing trade with Cuba, including the U.S.-Cuban Trade Association, which lists more than 50 U.S. companies as members.
“The United States has done nothing but hurt the Cuban people by restricting the ability of American businesses to freely trade with other countries,” Redpath concluded. “The Unites States needs to increase engagement with the Cuba instead of continuing a foreign policy that hurts both Americans and Cubans alike.”

Freedom’s Reach: The Movie
Dear Friend,
Thank you so much for your interest in Christian Diaz’s “Freedom’s Reach”. Attached is updated information of the project concept and implementation along with how the funds will be raised.
Christian Diaz will be in Miami on Friday, February 1, 2008 making a public presentation of this concept to a few carefully selected Cuban leaders and personalities. We would like to extend a special invitation to you. If you know some people that you think would be interested in supporting what we are trying to accomplish, we urge you invite them.
An architectural model of the Plaza and a bronze model of the sculpture will be on display. This private gathering will be held at 6:30pm at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables (1200 Anastasia Avenue Coral Gables, FL 33134 - 305-445-1926).
Following is a personal letter from Christian Diaz to our community that expresses how he feels about this project.
We look forward to seeing you on Friday .
Thank you,
To my Cuban brothers and sisters:
“Freedom’s Reach” is a proposed monument, inspired by my late mother and intended to express the gratitude of the Cuban community for the opportunity and refuge extended to those of us that escaped from a communist regime. As a child I witnessed the generosity and compassion that this nation and its government extended to my family and those around me. It created a deep desire in my heart to express in a tangible, everlasting medium the gratitude and debt that every Cuban in the U.S. feels. I feel it is time that we say “Thank You - al amigo sincero que me da su mano franca.”
I would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes and browse through the attached PDF Brochure and give me your opinion and feedback on the concept. The project is designed to involve the whole US Cuban community, and I am seeking Cuban Celebrities to help me bring this effort to the Cuban public awareness.
We are in need of “Star Power” and public media support (newspaper, radio & TV) for dissemination of concept. We intent to produce an Infomercial with Cuban Stars, Celebrities and Prominent Cuban Individuals to encourage public participation and registration on line.
I will be in Miami on February 1, 2008 making a public presentation of this concept to a few carefully selected Cuban leaders and personalities. I would like to extend a special invitation to you, and anyone close to you, that you feel would appreciate what we are trying to accomplish. I will have an architectural model of the Plaza and a bronze model of the sculpture in display. This private gathering will be held at 6 :30 pm at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables (1200 Anastasia Avenue Coral Gables, FL 33134 - 305-445-1926)
Thank you in advance for your time and interest.
Me mantengo a sus ordenes,
Christian Diaz

New Film: The Shoot Down
On February 24, 1996, four Brothers to the Rescue pilots were murdered by the Cuban government. These men were patrolling international waters looking for cuban rafters who were trying to escape the demonic trenches of Fidel Castro’s government. They were not able to help the rafters, as they were shot down by the cuban government. Much has been said about this day but there is now a documentary that is chilling. I am urging all my friends who are like me believers of human rights and passionate about the suffering of the innocent. I have attached a link for the movie’s trailer. It is important that you go to the theater and see this movie. If you go, the theaters will continue to show the movie. This will allow everyone throughout the US to finally see the truth. If you don’t it will die just like our brothers died that very sad day on February 24th. Please pass this on to everyone who you know is passionate about our cause. The last time that we did this we worked together we got a response of over 50,000. I have also included the opening days for this movie. Please go see it.
God Bless you,

No estoy sorprendido.
An Open Letter to Mexico
OPEN LETTER TO MEXICO
On the Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, I would like to congratulate the people of the American Continent especially Mexico.
Unfortunately, there are prisoners in Mexico whose crime has been to leave Cuba and ask for Political Asylum. One of the Asylum Seekers is a Member of the Opposition.
The US Latin TV Station America Teve and its programme “Seguro Q Yes” dedicated a special programme to these who are unfortunate to be a Cuban in a Mexican Prison. The programme included as Guest Stars, the Mexican Singer Alondra, the Reporter Maria Fernanda Lopez, the Cuban Singer Franco, and a relative of one of the prisoners.
America Teve was able to speak with one of the prisoners via a telephone and questions were asked by the host and by Maria Fernanda Lopez. The response was “Thirty Years in Jail and The Firing Squad”.
I love the people of Mexico but their government cannot ask the people of the USA to accept Mexicans while they deport Cuban Nationals and others. It is also surreal that the Government of Mexico accepted Spaniards leaving Franco’s Spain in the 1930’s and Chileans leaving Pinochet’s Chile in 1973. What is the difference between the Cubans under Castro and the above mentioned.
In fact, there is no mention of Communist Atrocities in Cuba or in Nandigram in India.
I also condemn the US Government in its treatment of Mexicans who only wants to work to support their family since it is almost impossible to do this in Mexico.
I ask the Virgin of Guadalupe [whose day coincides with my wife’s birthday] to intercede for these Cubans who are suffering in Mexican Jails. I would also like to thank the US Latin Station America Teve and its programme “Seguro Q Yes” for the special programme. Last but not least, My thanks to the artists such as Alondra, Franco, and the reporter Maria Fernanda Lopez as well as the host of Seguro Q Yes for their effort.
Carta Abierta a Mexico
