Horacio Cervantes scored a last minute goal for Cruz Azul against San Luis. It occurred within 89 minutes of the game.

He accomplished this by receiving the ball and kicking it directly into the right angle of the goal net surprising Cesar Lozano (the goalie for San Luis).

The goal was assisted by Rogelio Chavez Martinez who (in collaboration with Javier Aquino Carmona) was able to to deflect the ball from a distant area.

The response of Estadio Azul was an outstanding ovation for their home team after anxiety over the lack of a goal.

Cruz Azul dominated the game from the beginning with their consistency during the game. It was marked with rapid fire moves as well as an even distribution of the ball between the team members.

The attempts to score were blocked by Cesar Lozano who was attempting to deflect the ball with some success. It appears that Cruz Azul wanted to weaken the goalie so that there could be a goal.

Cruz Azul at one point underestimated the San Luis Gladiadores and almost conceded a goal. San Luis took advantage of the weakness in order to attempt numerous goals and placing Jesus Corona (Cruz Azul goalie) on the defensive.

Jesus Corona was able to resist the pressure on San Luis and apply a form of reverse psychology on San Luis by passing the ball to Cruz Azul. The team regained the initiative and continued playing until San Luis felt fatigued.

The end result is that Cruz Azul is currently in first place in the Mexican League and Group Three with 39 points. The San Luis Gladiadores are in second place in the Group Two Mexican League with 26 points.

Jorge Gasso Flores was the referee who awarded (with justification) yellow cards to Cervantes (Cruz Azul) as well as Anibal Matellan and Ignacio Torres (San Luis) for misconduct.

The most valued player of the game was Horacio Cervantes for his last minute goal.

Cruz Azul faced Santos Laguna in its home stadium of Estadio Azul as the battle of the first two teams in the 2010-2011 Mexican League.

Both teams were also hoping to measure their strength for the CONCACAF Champions League.

Cruz Azul was dominant from the beginning (up to a point) with its consistency and discipline with Alejandro Vela scoring the first goal of the game with a head butt in 5 minutes.

Vela was able to execute an attack from the corner with Horacio Cervantes receiving the ball and scoring the second goal with his head within 46 minutes.

The nail in the hopes of Santos Laguna to at least score was buried with the third goal by Christian Jimenez within 88 minutes with a direct kick into the goal post.

The only mistake that Cruz Azul made was that at one point it was resting on its laurels and Santos Laguna was able to take advantage by dominating the game. The visiting team was able to place Cruz Azul on the defensive.

Horacio Cervantes was able to arouse Cruz Azul with a quick decision to make the defense and offense air tight. After the second goal by Cervantes, Cruz Azul was able to focus again on the game.

Mauricio Morales was the referee who was able to impose order as well as yellow cards for anti sports conduct on Christian Gimenez, Gonzalo Pineda, and Emanuel Vila of Cruz Azul.

Morales also imposed yellow cards on Jose Antonio Olivera and Carlos Darwin Olivero of Santos Laguna.

The substitutions helped Cruz Azul more than it did Santos Laguna.

Cruz Azul has been able to maintain its top spot in the Mexican League with this victory.

Cruz Azul has just defeated Club America at their most recent showdown in the Mexican League.

The victory which was the first for the club in 7 years since facing Club America occurred in the Estadio Azul in Mexico.

Chiristian Jimenez took advantage of a free kick from fellow teammate Javier Antonio Carmona to direct the ball into the area of the goal net to score.

This occured in 53 minutes of the game and the applause was deafening in the stadium

The previous time that such a victory occurred against Club America was when Cesareo Victorino and Sebastian Abreu scored two goals on February 16, 2002.

The results leave Cruz Azul in first place with 15 points in the Mexican Bicentennial 2010 Tournament while Club America remains in fifth place with 8 points.

Cruz Azul played their best and were disciplined and organized. The only exception was the two yellow cards administered to Gerardo Torrado and Gonzalo Pineda within the end of the game.

Club America managed to make fools of themselves with their lackluster play and lack of discipline. The club managed to play into the hands of Cruz Azul.

The players of Club America received yellow cards which appeared to be five for misconduct. The icing on the cake for the club was the expulsion of Oscar Rojas for using excessive force against Cruz Azul player Javier Aquino Carmona.

It was great to have seen history in the making with these two teams and the well deserved victory of Cruz Azul

Javier Orozco who is one of the players for Cruz Azul declared that the team is close to the type of game that its coach Enrique Meza desires.

Cruz Azul according to Javier Orozco appears more confident in view of its recent victory against Atlas although he recognized that the team has to play against stronger opponents.

He also expressed a desire for Cruz Azul to be the champions of the Mexican League 2010-2011 as well as the CONCACAF Champions League.

Orozco also expressed his thanks to the Mexican Press and fans of Cruz Azul for choosing him as their main idol. He expressed that being an idol does not mean being an “artificial” person but to do the best for the team, the community, and the nation.

The interview of Orozco with the sports magazine Medio Tiempo.com took place as the team is making preparations for their next game in the CONCACAF Champions League against the Panamanian team Arabe Unido on September 15, 2010.

While Cruz Azul has improved its status, it still has a long way to go before winning the Mexican League 2010-2011 and the CONCACAF Champions League.
