CHIVAS USA TO FACE SEATTLE SOUNDERS IN U.S. CUP SEMIFINAL: Fresh off a 1-0 victory over D.C. United in league play, Chivas USA will travel to face Seattle Sounders FC in a crucial U.S. Open Cup semifinal matchup this Wednesday, Sept. 1. The match will take place at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash., and will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT. With a victory, the Red-and-White would face the winner of the other semifinal, being played earlier on Wednesday between the Columbus Crew and D.C. United at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.

RED-AND-WHITE WITH OPEN CUP HISTORY AGAINST SEATTLE: Chivas USA has not allowed a goal to Sounders FC since the team entered MLS at the beginning of the 2009 season, owning a 2-0-2 record (W-L-T) against Seattle. However, the two clubs met in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, with the USL version of the Sounders coming away with victories both times. Seattle won 3-1 in 2007 and 2-0 in 2008, and both matches were played at Starfire Sports Complex, the site of this Wednesday’s matchup.

SOLD-OUT MATCH TO BE BROADCAST ONLINE: Seattle Sounders FC announced on Monday that Wednesday night’s semifinal against Chivas USA is sold out. The game will be broadcast via live videocast on the Sounders’ team website at SoundersFC.com, and Red-and-White fans can also follow along via Chivas USA’s official Twitter account, @cdchivasusa.
U.S. OPEN CUP FINAL HOSTS?: With a win on Wednesday at Seattle, Chivas USA would have a shot at hosting the championship match, depending on the result of the other semifinal between Columbus and D.C., which will be played three hours before. If the Red-and-White earn the victory and Columbus wins, Chivas would host the Crew in the final on Tuesday, October 12 at The Home Depot Center. But if D.C. and Chivas both win, the Red-and-White would travel to the nation’s capital on Wednesday, October 6.
CRITICAL WIN ON SUNDAY COMES FROM JUSTIN BRAUN’S EIGHTH GOAL: Justin Braun’s 13th minute header held up as Chivas USA captured a 1-0 win over D.C. United on Sunday night at The Home Depot Center. The striker scored his team-leading eighth goal of the MLS season, looping a header from the top of the box over D.C. goalkeeper Troy Perkins, while Zach Thornton earned his fifth shutout of the season at the other end of the field. With the win, Chivas USA continues to keep its playoff hopes alive, improving to 6-11-4 (W-L-T) on the season, good for 22 points, just one point behind the Houston Dynamo in the Western Conference with a game in hand.

FROM SEATTLE TO DENVER FOR WESTERN CONFERENCE MATCHUP: After the U.S. Open Cup Semifinal match against the Seattle Sounders, Chivas USA will travel to Denver to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park at 6:00 p.m. PT  in a game that will be broadcast on FS West (Delay, 7:30 p.m. PT), live on KWHY and W Radio 690 AM. Colorado (8-6-7) is currently in fifth place in the Western Conference with 31 points and is currently holding the last playoff spot in the conference.
BUSY HOME SCHEDULE INCLUDES PAIR OF LEAGUE GAMES: Chivas USA will return home for three matches in quick succession, starting with the New England Revolution on Friday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center, then facing Chivas de Guadalajara in an exhibition at PETCO Park in San Diego on Tuesday, September 14 at 8:00 p.m., and finishing the busy stretch against the Kansas City Wizards on Sunday, September 19 at 5:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. FIFA has announced that it will be visiting the USA within the first week of September 2010. The purpose is to evaluate the possibility of the USA hosting the 2018 or 2022 World Cup.

According to David Downs who is the Executive Director of the US Bid Committee, there are 981,000 signatures in the petition for FIFA. He is hoping for one million signatures.

Landon Donovan has thrown his hat in the ring by challenging people to sign the petition to bring the World Cup to the USA. He is also talking about the magic number called one million.

According to the FIFA protocol, there will be a six man delegation from the football/soccer federation that will tour the New Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey/New York, the Fed Ex Field in Washington, DC, Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida, Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, and the Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

The head of the delegation is Harold Mayne-Nicholls who is the President of the Chilean Football Federation while another member is the former head of the 2010 World Cup organizing committee Danny Jordaan.

After the tour, the group will return to Europe to vote on the possible nominees on December 2, 2010. They have finished their visits to Russia as well as Netherlands and Belgium.

The 2018 candidates are the USA, Russia, England, Spain/Portugal, Netherlands/Belgium. The 2022 Candidates are the same countries but included in the list are Qater, Republic of Korea [also known as South Korea], and Australia.

While all of the candidates are great, the USA deserves to be selected even though it was host for the 1994 World Cup. The USA has matured as a soccer country with the presence of many leagues such as MLS and NASL.

There are people who love soccer especially the MLS. One of the notable examples is Ohio Comedian Drew Carey who is promoting the sport for the love of it.

In Miami Florida, more people tuned to the World Cup than other programmes combined. At the same time, people are looking at the US Soccer Team as a team that could compete in the big leagues in spite of the doubters.

While I have a personal opinion, one has to be a realist. It is my general feeling that a European country preferrably Russia will be chosen as the host of the 2018 World Cup.

Russia will be chosen since Brazil is hosting the 2014 World Cup and a continent cannot host two consecutive games. Another reason is that the FIFA Inspection Committee have a love for the unknown which is another reason for Russia.

The 2022 World Cup may fall to the USA either by default or by a heavy amount of support. The reason for the default is the possibility that China may bid for the 2026 World Cup.

If that is true, the candidacy of the Asian and Pacific Countries as well as Qatar may fall flat. It remains to be seen what will transpire and how the voting will turn out. Keep your fingers crossed.

One week from today, FIFA is coming to the U.S. to evaluate our World Cup Bid up close.

This is a huge opportunity to make our best possible impression, so we need to go all out to show them just how much we want to host the FIFA World Cup™.

Right now, we have 981,000 supporters of our Bid. We’re so close to exceeding our initial goal of 1 million — but we need your help to get there before FIFA arrives.

I know I’ve asked you to spread the word about the Bid before, but with FIFA coming in just one week, now is the most important moment to take action. Tell everyone you know to sign the petition now:

FIFA is sending a six-person inspection team to tour several of the stadiums and facilities that are part of our Bid. After their visit, they’ll report back to the FIFA Executive Committee, which is responsible for selecting the host nations to both World Cups.

When the FIFA team arrives, I don’t want to tell them we have 990,000 or 995,000 supporters — I want to tell them we have more than 1 million. Then there will be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Game Is In US.

With your help, I know we can get there. Tell everyone you know about our Bid, and help us make our best impression on FIFA next week:

Thanks,

Club America faced Necaxa in another Mexican League game at its home base of Estadio Azteca in Mexico.

The game was proof that Club America is a different team from its era with Salvador Cabanas.

Dario Gandin scored the first goal for Necaxa at 41 minutes and was assisted by Everaldo Vergne de Assis Barbossa.

Daniel Marquez Palacios scored for Club America at 76 minutes with help from Jose Joaquin Martinez and using his head.

Besides the two marvelous ways of scoring goals, the teams were mediocre in their plays.

Club America was worse since they conceded too much too early to an equally disorganized Necaxa.

The attitude of the players appeared to be wanting to go to this game and attempt to finish it. It is this attitude that does not help anyone.

Dario Gandin had an opportunity to score a second goal for Necaxa and the attempt was rejected by the goalie from Club America.

The only thing that was worth something was the referee Juan Genaro Madraino who gave both teams and equal share of yellow cards.

Club America is currently in second place in Group 2 with 9 points while Necaxa is in 4th place in Group 1 with six points.

While Honduras is recovering from the recent losses of Marathon and Olimpia in the CONCACAF Champion League, it has some good news.

Celtic FC has recently welcomed Emilio Izaguirre to its team. His debut with the team received applause from the team’s manager who sees a bright future.

The down side was that Izaguirre’s debut game was between Celtic FC and Motherwell which resulted in a victory for the latter.

Emilio Izaguirre was born in Honduras on May 10, 1986. He started his career with Club Deportivo Montagua in 2004.

His first victory was Montagua over Denli which lead to subsequent victories in his career with Montagua such as the 2006/2007 Apertura and the 2007 UNCAF Club Championship.

His first international game was between Honduras and Costa Rica on February 9 2007.

Mr. Izaguirre has 42 International Caps and participated in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup as well as the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China.

He also participated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup representing his country. It remains to be seen how he will fare in Celtic FC but at least Honduras as well as Mexico and the USA are starting to receive attention.
