No Treason: Lysander Spoon Chapter One
Lysander Spooner
No Treason
Introductory
The question of treason is distinct from that of slavery; and is the same that it would have been, if free States, instead of slave States, had seceded.
On the part of the North, the war was carried on, not to liberate the slaves, but by a government that had always perverted and violated the Constitution, to keep the slaves in bondage; and was still willing to do so, if the slaveholders could be thereby induced to stay in the Union.
The principle, on which the war was waged by the North, was simply this: that men may rightfully be compelled to submit to, and support, a government that they do not want; and that resistance, on their part, makes them traitors and criminals.
No principle, that is possible to be named, can be more self-evidently false than this; or more self-evidently fatal to all political freedom. Yet it triumphed in the field, and is now assumed to be established. If it be really established, the number of slaves, instead of having been diminished by the war, has been greatly increased; for a man, thus subjected to a government that he does not want, is a slave. And there is no difference, in principle—but only in degree—between political and chattel slavery. The former, no less than the latter, denies a man’s ownership of himself and the products of his labor; and asserts that other men may own him, and dispose of him and his property, for their uses, and at their pleasure.
Previous to the war, there were some grounds for saying that—in theory, at least, if not in practice—our government was a free one; that it rested upon consent. But nothing of that kind can be said now, if the principle on which the war was carried on by the North, is irrevocably established.
If that principle be not the principle of the Constitution, the fact should be known. If it be the principle of the Constitution, the Constitution itself should be at once overthrown.

Notwithstanding all the proclamations we have made to mankind, within the last ninety years, that our government rested on consent, and that that was the only rightful basis on which any government could rest, the late war has practically demonstrated that our government rests upon force—as much so as any government that ever existed.
The North has thus virtually said to the world: It was al very well to prate of consent, so long as the objects to be accomplished were to liberate ourselves from our connexion with England, and also to coax a scattered and jealous people into a great national union; but now that those purposes have been accomplished, and the power of the North has become consolidated, it is sufficient for us—as for all governments—simply to say: Our power is our right.
In proportion to her wealth and population, the North has probably expended more money and blood to maintain her power over an unwilling people, than any other government ever did. And in her estimation, it is apparently the chief glory of her success, and an adequate compensation for all her own losses, that all pretence of any necessity for consent to the perpetuity or power of the government is (as she thinks) forever expunged from the minds of the people. In short, the North exults beyond measure in the proof she has given, that a government, professedly resting on consent, will expend more life and treasure in crushing dissent, than any government openly founded on force, has ever done.
And she claims that she has done all this in behalf of liberty! In behalf of free government! In behalf of the principle that government should rest on consent!
If the successors of Roger Williams, within a hundred years after their State had been founded upon the principle of free religious toleration, and when the Baptists had become strong on the credit of that principle, had taken to burning heretics with a fury never before seen among men; and had they finally gloried in having thus suppressed all question of the truths of the State religion; and had they further claimed to have done all this in behalf of freedom of conscience, the inconsistency between profession and conduct would scarcely been greater than that of the North, in carrying on such a war as she has done, to compel men to live under and support a government that they did not want; and in then claiming that she did it in behalf of the principle that government should rest on consent.
This astonishing absurdity and self-contradiction are to be accounted for only by supposing, either that the lusts of fame, and power, and money, have made her utterly blind to, or utterly reckless of, the inconsistency and enormity of her conduct; or that she has never even understood what was implied in a government’s resting on consent. Perhaps this last explanation is the true one. In charity to human nature, it is to be hoped that it is.

Necaxa VS Atlas
PRELUDE
Necaxa played against Atlas in order to classify for the quarter finals of the last few seasons of the Mexican League. The Necaxa VS Atlas game was transmitted live from Estadio Victoria [Victory Stadium] in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico. The transmission was via the US Latin Global Station called Galavision [which is also the sister station of the US Latin Global Station Univision]. The date of the game was on the eleventh day of May in the year 2008.
FIRST HALF
The First Half was a game that was uneventful with both teams attempting to possess the ball and the game. Both teams had the opportunity to score but either the ball missed the net or went over the net. One of the biggest events of the first half was the antics of one of the players called Reyes. Reyes received three bookings [yellow cards] for antiprofessional behaviour before being expelled [finally] for assaulting a player from the opposing team. After the expulsion, the first half ended with little ceremony and decorum.
SECOND HALF
The Second Half was a continuation of the agony that existed in the first half. Again both teams attempted to score and failed in the process. Both teams made errors that were not taken advantage of and one of the players called Rodallega received a booking [yellow card] for tripping over an opposing team player. In the end, there was no goal but Necaxa and Atlas were awarded a point under a global classification. Necaxa was able to advance to the quarter finals of the Mexican League but to advance without having goaled or attempted to play a great football [soccer] is a disgrace.
CONCLUSION
Both teams did not play a football that merited much attention and there were no players that were able to rise above the others in this game. Both teams did not take advantage of the weakness of the other and it appeared that both just simply played to get the game over with. Necaxa was able to advance to the quarter finals but this happened without a goal. If Necaxa is serious about winning the Mexican League Championships, it would have to be strong and attempt to win every game. Necaxa has the possibility of winning every game but it must show the world and the Mexican League that it is made of steel.
Necaxa 0-0 Atlas
Necaxa: 0/10
Atlas: 0/10

New England Revolution: A Personal Reflection
The New England Revolution is one of the institutions of Major League Soccer. From its humble beginnings in 1995 as one of the founding members of Major League Soccer to its present place in Gillette Stadium in Boston, Massachusetts, the New England Revolution has been a beacon to those who say that Soccer would never take hold or even gain a foothold in the United States of America. How wrong were the so called Sports experts?
New England Revolution has the same owner as the New England Patriots [Robert Kraft] and has had five coaches since its beginning such as Frank Stapleton, Thomas Rungen, Fernando Clavijo, Walter Zenga, and Steve Nicol. Many of the alumni who played for the New England Revolution such as Alexi Lalas, Joe-Max Moore, Mike Burns, Walter Zenga, Raul Diaz Arce, Leonel Alvarez, Eric Wynalda, John Harkes, Wolde Harris, William Sunsing, Adin Brown, Jose Cancela, Clint Dempsey, Pat Noonan, Andy Dorman, and Jose Manuel Abundis have gone to other careers and teams.
While they have had their largest win against the Colorado Rapids in Gillette Stadium on the eighteenth of September 2004 and their largest defeat against the Chicago Fire on Soldier Field on the twenty second of September 2000, they have had impressive records such as the most goals [91] by Taylor Twellman, the most assists [59] by Steve Ralston, and the most minutes [16,749] and games [188] played by Jay Heaps. Taylor Twellman has had the most shots with 510, as well as two hundred and ninety two shots on goals, three hat tricks, fifteen multi goal games, and twenty six game winning goals.
The New England Revolution has been the recipient of many awards such as being the runner up to the MLS Cup in the years 2002, 2005, 2006, and 2007. Other awards that the New England Revolution received were the MLS Supporters Shield as Runner Ups in 2005 and the US Open Cup as Runner Ups in 2001 and Champions in 2007. The New England Revolution has also participated in the CONCACAF Champions Cup by advancing to the first round against Ajaleunse in 2003 and 2006 as well as the CONCACAF Champion’s League in 2008, and the 2008 Superliga against Chivas USA, CF Pachuca, and Santos Laguna.
In the current MLS Season for the year 2008, the New England Revolution has had four victories, three defeats, and one draw. With the 2008 Season progressing [especially after signing Chris Albright, Spencer Valentino, Matt Britner, Spencer Wadsworth, Kheli Dube, Mauricio Castro, Argenis Fernandez, Brandon Tyler, Sam Brill, and Chase Hilgenbrinck], it remains to be seen whether the New England Revolution can maintain momentum and win games so as to win the MLS Cup Trophy. My best wishes to the New England Revolution.
